We are now over halfway through Advent and approaching Christmas remarkably quickly. Today is the thirteenth day of my bookish Advent calendar and I am still looking forward to opening the package each morning and seeing what has been chosen for me. If the rest of the books I have been sent are of the same quality and variety as those I have opened so far I shall be very pleased.
Today’s book is a children’s classic Tom’s Midnight Garden which I know about but have never read. It’s a time slip book about a boy who make a new friend but only in a garden which is accessible at midnight. This premise reminds me of Penelope Farmer’s children’s book Charlotte Sometimes which I loved as a teenager so I am looking forward to reading this one. I have read a few adult books with time slips in them and I am not over fond of them (with the exception of Outlander which I do enjoy – see my review here) but they are different from children’s books which are often a lot less complex.
The book I have been sent is a Puffin edition. It’s a book designed for early teenagers rather than a Young Adult book. In my early teens I sought Puffin books because so many of them were good. This book is quite old (it has a selling price of £2.99 on the back cover) but is in excellent condition.

I must have read this as a teenager. I remember that I enjoyed it, but the plot has entirely gone from my memory.
