My 60 Books from 60 Years Challenge

In 2022 I celebrated my sixtieth birthday. As a challenge I decided to read 60 books in the year – one from each year of my life.

That was a little optimistic and, in the end, it took about eighteen months to read all 60 and reveiew them but I have now read and blogged about all the books I read – click on any of the titles below and it will take you to my review.

Here is the blog which outlines what I wanted to achieve and here is my update at the end of 2020 which explains the delay in finishing my challenge.

The books were chosen from a variety of lists of most popular books of the year and award winners both from the UK and USA. This does mean that some of them might not have been first published in the UK in the year to which I have assigned them – I did my best but it’s not an exact science and creating the list in the first place took a lot of time and effort. With a very few exceptions the books were purchased second hand or acquired cheaply for my Kindle or listened to as an audiobook. One or two I already had on my to-be-read pile and I did buy two of the most recent ones as new hardback books because I knew I was going to want to keep them. I am pretty sure that all of them could have been obtained through the library if I had preferred.

Would I recommend this type of challenge ? I think I would but I would urge people to be realistic about how long it will take to read the books and not to choose too many long ones ! There were a couple of these titles that I would have given up on had I not been reading them as part of this challenge but I am very glad that I read most of them and delighted to discover some new favourites.
