Day seventeen of my bookish Advent calendar brings me a second title by Robert Macfarlane. As I said when the first book was opened (see here for my blog of that day) I have read one book by this author in the past and was happy to receive a second. I am equally happy to receive a third and delighted that it is not a copy of the book that I have already read.
The Old Ways is a book about ancient tracks and ways which cover the British Isles. The author walks these and comments on the landscape, the environment, their history and their future. I live in an area filled with footpaths, many of which have a long and interesting history, so I am aware of some of the things that he will be touching on but this book will obviously range much further.
This author writes about the things we often overlook in our landscape – paths, wilderness areas and underground spaces. It is good to know about them and to keep our eyes open when travelling around.
This is a recent paperback which has obviously been read but by a careful owner. I shall look forward to reading it.
