2024 Advent Book 3 – “A Stranger in My Grave” by Margaret Millar

The third book in my Advent calendar is A Stranger in My Grave by Margaret Millar. This is an author of whom I have heard but who I have never read. This book is a psychological thriller written and set in the 1950s about a woman who dreams of her own grave and is suspicious of her husband’s attitude towards the nightmare when she tells him about it. The clue, it seems, is in her past. It sounds a bit Hitchcockian ?

The author is American and her books are described as “suspense” and “noir” both of which are fine by me. Often these reissued novels are British and pre WW2 but this one, which is published by the Pushkin Vertigo imprint, is slightly more recent.

The book is in good condition although the cover is a bit grubby on the back which doesn’t worry me at all – I am only interested in the story.

Another interesting choice and one I might easily have picked up on my own. Three books in and three books which I don’t own and I will read – I wonder what’s in the rest of those parcels !
