2024 Advent Book 10 – “Lie Still” by Julia Heaberlin

We have reached book 10 of my Advent calendar of books and we still have not had a duplicate of a book that I have read or which I already own which I think is quite remarkable when you consider how many books I read. Today’s parcel contained a suspense novel – Lie Still by Julia Heaberlin. The author is American and has been a reporter. She has written a number of books, all of which appear to be stand-alone novels.

This book concerns a couple who move from New York to a town in Texas as the husband has been appointed to the role of Sheriff. The wife, who is pregnant, gets to know some of the wealthy women in town but soon wonders who she can trust, especially when a friend goes missing. It seems that the events in the town may be connected to events in the past life of the newcomers.

This looks like an interesting read and I am certainly going to give it a go – there seem to be plenty of books around about sinister small towns with secrets to hide (Book 7 of this Advent calendar has the same type of setting).

This book has obviously been well read, although it is in perfectly readable condition. It also has one of those nasty, unremovable stickers on its front which we all wish that publishers/bookshops would avoid and which sensibly no one has tried to peel off – the resulting mess is often worse than the sticker.
