Book fifteen of my Advent calendar is another Icelandic crime novel (see here for the first one which is Book 9). It’s The Draining Lake by Arnaldur Indridason. The book is set in Reykjavik and involves the discovery of a skeleton in a dried out lake. The body may, or possibly may not, be connected with the Cold War and East Germany. This is one of a series of police procedurals set in Iceland and, according to my records, I have read two of them previously, although not this one. That came as a bit of a surprise to me as I had thought that I had not read a crime novel set in Iceland before but when I looked up the details of the books I had only a distant memory of the plots so it is likely that I read them a long time ago.
Anyway, I am delighted to have another Scandinavian crime novel to read and I am looking forward to this one which might be so good that I want to read or reread others in the series. This book has been well read and has a broken spine but all the pages are present and it doesn’t look like it’s going to fall apart on me in the near future which is really all I require.
