Book seventeen of my Advent calendar is a Scottish crime novel by Louise Welsh called The Cutting Room. It’s about an auctioneer who discovers some unusual photographs when doing a house clearance and starts to investigate. It seems to be a gritty thriller, set in the seedier parts of Glasgow, and has won a number of awards.
I have heard of this writer but never read anything that she has written, although she is very well known. I am hoping that the novel isn’t too violent or that it doesn’t use too much profanity which are both things that some authors add to their story to make their book seem more appealing. A quick glance through reviews on Amazon, however, shows me that it is admired as a work of noir which is very readable.
Another interesting choice and a book I am looking forward to reading. My copy is in good condition and has been blessed with a bookmark in the shape of a train ticket from 2008 I found among the pages.
