For book nineteen of my bookish Advent calendar I have been sent Ape House by Sara Gruen. This is a book about apes who learn to communicate with humans, via sign language. The animals are “freed” by activists and become the subject of a TV reality show. The cover tells me that readers find it “emotional” and “funny” – it certainly seems to have an unusual premise for the plot.
I have not read this book before but I have read this author’s best known novel Water for Elephants (see my review here). I didn’t really enjoy that book, although I finished it, so I am a bit apprehensive about this one as it’s not a book I think that I would choose for myself. The purpose of this calendar, for me, is to find books I would otherwise not know about or pick so I feel that I need to give this novel a chance – I have been known to be wrong before !.
The copy I have been sent is in excellent condition.
