The twentieth book in my Advent calendar is the second book that I have already owned. It is The History of Bees by Maja Lunde. My copy is a Kindle edition, bought in one of Amazon’s many sales for 99p, but this paper copy is a rather special one with coloured page edges in black and yellow and occasional line drawings of bees sprinkled around the text.
I started this book earlier this year on my Kindle but gave up on it after about fifty pages. It’s a story told in three timelines; the past, the present and the future. In each timeline there is a story to do with a family and beekeeping or the cultivation of plants. I expect that they tie together later in the story but I didn’t get far enough to see that. I think that I found the story a bit too mysterious and unexplained and I didn’t have the patience to read further. Now that I am in possession of this rather lovely edition I think I shall give it another go.
