2024 Advent Book 22 – “Walking By Night” by Kate Ellis

We’re nearly at the end of my Advent calendar which I am still enjoying. Book 22 is Walking By Night by Kate Ellis. This is a crime book in her series featuring Detective Inspector Joe Plantagenet. This author has written, and still writes, a series set in Devon about a police officer who is an archaeologist and I have read a lot of those (see my review of one here). Today’s book belongs to a shorter series set in Yorkshire. According to my records I have read this book in the past but it must be some years ago and I don’t currently own a copy so I am quite content to read it again.

All the books in this series have a slightly supernatural feel although they aren’t horror books. The author leaves it up to the reader how they explain some of what happens. This story centres on a body found in the ruined abbey which then disappears and a missing girl who has been part of a theatre production of a play which contains sexual and religious material and is regarded as shocking.

I shall enjoy reading this book. It’s not particularly long and the author is good at plotting and pacing so it will be easy and enjoyable to read. This book is in nearly new condition.
