Book 23, the penultimate one in this year’s Advent calendar, is The Man Who Disappeared by Clare Morrall. I have not previously heard of the book or the author although I note that a novel of hers has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
This is a stand-alone suspense novel/psychological thriller. A wife is alarmed when her husband disappears but then discovers that he is a suspected criminal. She realises that she never really knew him and that the life of her family has been built upon very rocky foundations. As she becomes aware that he may not return she has to find the strength to go on by herself.
This is an interesting premise for a story, although I have seen it used before – a lot depends on what the author does with it. I am rather looking forward to reading this book and seeing what happens. My copy is obviously read but in good condition.
