Murder in Hollywood

Peter Robinson is most famous for writing the Inspector Banks series (see my review of one of those books here) which are set in Yorkshire. No Cure for Love is a stand-alone novel which is set in Hollywood where a successful actress is being stalked by an unknown figure who is sending her disturbing notes signed only “M”

Sarah Broughton is a British actress transplanted to America and who plays a detective in a popular TV series. Arvo Hughes is the actual detective whose job it is to find out what is happening. Her stalker appears to know her real name and things from her life in Britain. He is also obviously watching her and has a dangerous obsession.

Things escalate when Sarah finds a mutilated body outside her home and the threats become more open so the detective and his partner have to dig into things in Sarah’s past which she has made every effort to keep hidden. They are trying to prevent another murder.

This book is set in the 1990s and it represents a difference in style from the author in that it is more gritty than the Inspector Banks books and the language used by the characters is more down to earth, although it is not very extreme. I enjoyed it a lot and wished that the author had written a series of books with Arvo as the hero.
