I started my Travelling for the Summer Challenge at the beginning of June with the idea of reading as many books as I could from different countries in the next three months – see my introductory blog here. I finished the challenge having read 25 books which I am very pleased with as that is 25 fewer books on my to-be-read piles. I may, however, have bought that many books during the summer to replace those and thus the problem of the ever growing piles has not improved during the period !
If you add in the nine books I read from different countries during my Springcleaning Challenge of the previous three months of the year I have read 34 books set in countries which are not Britain or USA in six months. I do have some others which I didn’t get around to reading so you may see these turn up on the blog over the next few months.
It’s been fun reading books set in places all over the globe. Ideally I should read books written by people indigenous to the countries they write about but I haven’t restricted my reading that way – maybe another time. The geographical spread hasn’t been great either and I acknowledge that most of Africa has been ignored, as has South America, with Europe probably being over represented. The choice of countries depended very much on which books were available on my to-be-read piles as buying others to fill the gaps would have spoiled the whole purpose of the challenge !
Anyway, here are the books I have read over the past six months – if you click on the title you should get transported to the review of that book.
Now, I need to start a new challenge because I really MUST get those book piles reduced !
