Advent 2025 Book 8 – Sea, ships and a mystery

Celia Imrie is an actress who has written some popular books, or if she hasn’t written them herself they have been published under her name. I haven’t read any of them but book 8 of my Advent Calendar is a mystery novel set on a cruise ship – Sail Away.

The story centres on two women on a transatlantic cruise who come together to solve a mystery on board. One of the women is an aging actress whose roles seem to have dried up and the other is a woman, temporarily homeless, who is occupying her time between addresses by travelling. It looks like this is a crime story at the cosy end of the genre which is fine by me. It is also nice to read about older main characters.

Various words of praise on the cover of this book, which again is in excellent condition, that worry me a little are “hilarious”, “romp” and “caper”. One reader’s opinion of a book as amusing might not align with mine when I read it because I have found that what others find funny and heart warming I often find sentimental and silly. On the other hand it could be great – I shall need to read it to see.

With this book came a flavoured teabag. I don’t drink tea, even the flavoured ones, and this bag apparent contains strawberry, cucumber, green tea and aloe vera which seems an unlikely mixture to me. I do have friends who like these things to pass this on to, however, so I am sure it will be used at some point.
