Advent 2025 Book 9 – shoes, money and choices

My Advent Calendar has reached Book 9 which is Someone Else’s Shoes by Jojo Moyes. It’s a contemporary novel about two women in very different situations who become connected when one of them accidentally takes the other’s gym bag. The copy I have been sent is in good condition although it is obvious that it has been read.

I have only ever read one of this author’s books before and that was the very popular Me Before You which I read all the way through but didn’t enjoy. I didn’t like the depiction of disability in the book and the fact that every character in the story had their say except for the character with the disability who had no voice. I appreciate that I am in the minority with my dislike for this book and it was well enough written to keep me engaged until the end, even if I didn’t enjoy it.

I am prepared to give this new book a chance although it’s not one that I would have chosen. I don’t read a huge amount of light, contemporary novels these days but I do enjoy some of them. I am hoping that the women characters in this book are sensible people who maybe make mistakes rather than scatty, muddled women who somehow win through.

With the book has come a sachet of coffee powder which I shall keep in the kitchen for a day when it might be needed.
