Advent 2025 Book 10 – exile, sisters and belonging

Book 10 of my Advent Calendar is a work of literary fiction – Wandering Souls by Cecile Pin. The paperback I have been sent is in excellent condition.

This is a novel about three Vietnamese sisters who come to England without their family during the 1980s. They are seeking a new life away from their war-torn country. This is, it appears, a book about sisterhood, identity and living in exile from your home. The praise quoted on the cover tells me that it is a powerful and moving story and the book was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction in 2023.

I think that this could be an interesting book. I obviously remember 1980s Britain but this author will be exploring it from a very different point of view. If the book isn’t too sentimental or too harsh then I should enjoy it. As I have never heard of the author or the book before I am glad of the chance to read something a bit different.

With the book I have been sent more of the sticky tags which people use to mark their place or notable passages in books. These will come in very useful for a variety of purposes and I am pleased to have them.
