Book 16 of my Advent Calendar is another book that I have read before. It’s by Marian Keyes and is a stand-alone novel called The Break – I think that I own it on Kindle. I very much enjoy most of this author’s books and it would be difficult to find one that I haven’t read but it is fair to say that I can’t remember much about this one so I might read it again as I now have a paper copy. This is only the fourth book I have been sent this Advent that I have previously read which I think is fine.
The story is about a couple where the husband takes a job abroad for six months and calls it a “break” in their marriage, although he says that it’s not the end of it. That leaves the wife, Amy, alone for a period coming to terms with her life and considering how she will manage on her own and if she wants to face the future as a single person. Because it’s Marian Keyes the book will be sharply observed and also very funny – this author has the ability to treat very important and disturbing issues, such as mental health problems and addiction, in a very accessible and non-judgemental way.
With the book came a single chocolate coin which I haven’t eaten yet, although I suspect that it will not be long before it is consumed.

I’ve read this one some years ago. Not her best, but still readable.
