Today’s calendar book is a romantic comedy. It’s called The Takedown by Carlie Walker and the copy I have looks like it’s never been read. I will read romances and light romances provided that they don’t get too silly as they make pleasant, light relief from literary fiction and crime novels.
This is an American book featuring a female FBI agent who returns home to find that her sister is romantically involved with son of the local crime boss. She is determined to thwart the relationship and gather information to show her sister the type of family with which she is connected. Her difficulty is that in the way is a handsome bodyguard who she tries to seduce to gain information.
Even from that synopsis I have a fair idea of where the plot will go in this story but, of course, the success of the book for me will be in the writing and whether I engage with the characters. I will give this a try but suspect that I might become frustrated with the story quite quickly – I will review it when I get to it.
With this book is another cute wooden heart, measuring about three inches across, on which I think you might be able to write a message. I may pass this on to someone I wish to encourage.
