My 2025 Advent Calendar – my expectations

It’s very nearly Advent and again I have purchased a bookish Advent calendar because this is my December treat. This will be my third year and my third supplier. The box will contain 24 or 25 preowned books, one to be opened each day of Advent. The last two years have been very successful and I have blogged each day as I open my parcel.

This year I have purchased my calendar from the Mystery Book Box which I found on Etsy. The majority of the books will, apparently, be crime novels with the remainder to be contemporary fiction – they also promise a few additional goodies to go with the books. The box arrived in October with 24 parcels beautifully wrapped in material, tied up with twine and labelled. It has taken monumental amounts of willpower not to open at least one of these packages before December !

Of course, the regular readers of my blog, and there are a gratifyingly nice number of you, will note that I have grappled all year with the size of my to-be-read piles and have moaned regularly that I buy more books than I read. You would be correct in thinking, therefore, that the last thing that I need is yet more books but I am powerless to resist and the books are bought and the packages carefully stored in date order on a bookshelf.

I have 24 books. As I read a lot it is likely that this will include some books that I already own or have read and also maybe a few books by authors that I don’t enjoy reading – this is the nature of the calendar. I am looking for at least 15 that I definitely want to read and maybe 5 that I am absolutely delighted with and that has happened for the past two years.
