Advent 2025 Book 6 – Television, murder and the law

The sixth book in my Advent Calendar is The Suspect by Rob Rinder. The author is a lawyer and appears on television and writes for the newspapers to give views on legal issues in the public eye. I haven’t actually seen anything he’s appeared in or read anything he has written but I gather that he’s very popular. One of my reading friends recommended his books for me to read some time ago, although I can’t remember who it was, and so I shall read this book expecting to enjoy it.

There are a lot of books written by television “personalities” at the moment. I am thinking particularly of Richard Osman whose books are delightful reading but there are many more. Some of them are almost certainly written by ghost writers in the name of the celebrity but I have no idea if that is the case here.

This is the second book in a series about a junior barrister and the story centres on a breakfast television presenter who dies live on air and a celebrity chef who is accused of murder – it seems like these are things that the author should be able to write about knowledgably.

I am not over fond of legal thrillers/crime novels and tend to avoid them although I am not quite sure why. Maybe this is my opportunity to try something new for me. This is the sort of opportunity to try something a bit new that I hoped that the purchase of my Advent Calendar would encourage. I will review the book when I read it, although it may be some time before I get to it.

There was no additional goodie with this book.

  1. I’ve read all three of Rob Rinder’s books and I have enjoyed them all immensely. He definitely knows what he’s talking about but there’s a nice sense of humour in his characterisations. I hope you enjoy The Suspect
