Advent 2025 Book 13 – Secrets, murder and friendship

My Advent Calendar book for Day 13 is by an author I have never heard of before. It is You’ll Be the Death of Me by Karen M McManus who is an American writer of Young Adult fiction. The paper back copy I have been sent has purple coloured page edges and a white cover with purple writing – it’s rather well done. I gather that this book was shortlisted for the 2022 British Book Award in the Children’s Fiction Book section.

This is a stand alone novel about three young people who miss school one day and find themselves witnesses to a murder scene. From what I can see, each chapter is narrated by one of the young people who have been playing truant and I like stories told that way.

I read many fewer Young Adult books than I have previously – I think that Twilight and The Hunger Games and a few similar series exhausted my interest in this genre. I sometimes found that they were just a bit simplistic for me. Nevertheless I shall give this one a try and see what I think.

Included with today’s parcel is a small nail file. I always need nail files and I keep them in all sorts of places around the house and in my handbag. This will definitely come in useful.

  1. This one definitely sounds interesting and being short listed for the award should hopefully mean that it’s well written. I hope you enjoy it.
